Materials scientist turned embedded hardware enthusiast. I've been everything from a fry cook to university professor to a wine maker to a precision sheet metal prototype lead to a military radar hardware program manager. I made space shuttle tiles because I knew how. I've used so many computer languages, operating systems and hardware platforms that I don't think I can name them all anymore. Does it use electrons? Then yes. (Everything uses electrons, see the first sentence.)

Passionate about open source. Not a copyleft purist. Is it open source? Really? Oh, you just thought it was. No, I will not help you with that. Yes, it is very popular. No, I am not going to help you with that. Yes, that is a cool graphics accelerator. Closed source binary blob? No, I will not help you with that. We have a board with an open source driver, so why don't you use that? Then I will help you.

Appalachian Trail Thru-Hiker who can't believe he's managed to fool people into paying him to write code for a living. That either proves that Python can make good coders out of anyone or he has an army of minions running around intercepting his open source commits and refactoring them until they're non-stinky. But he thinks it's the Python.

Stuff about me that is probably available on the internet: I'm Kate, and love science and rhetoric. I went to the University of Iowa for my BS in biology. I got my MA in rhetoric from San Diego State University. I like video games, which is important because otherwise my marriage would be over (never would have started, really).

Details to confirm who I am: Terri let us stay with her in during one trip across the country. John was out of town for reasons. We ate at a Route 56 diner. There was a hummingbird feeder; apparently hummingbirds can be dicks. Also, I tend to have Thanksgiving with the Ames diaspora.
